Education Should No Longer be Free in Bhutan.
If root is the foundation of plants, then education is the foundation of our future or life. Stronger the root, stronger will be the plant and higher the education, better will be our future. This is why every country gives importance to education and Bhutan is one of the countries where free education is provided. Free education gives everyone equal opportunities to be educated. However, it increases the burden of the Government, its leads to overcrowding of students and they won't value the education.
Before anything else, free education increases the burden of the Government. Some of the responsibilities of Government are to provide public services, provide economic security and provide economic assistance. But since the education is free, they have difficulties in managing budgets for everything. Lack of budget declines the economic growth, they can't provide public services properly, and the quality of education will also start to get declined. And one the main reason for this is due to teachers going abroad. Most of the teachers opt for going abroad which directly or indirectly leads to the declination of the quality of the education. But if the education is not free, the table would definitely turn around.
Additionally. it leads to overcrowding of students. If education is not free, there would have been less students but since it is not, there will be excess of students. Because of this, students lose focus on studies, lose their competitive nature and also the motivation to excel in studies. Instead, they focus on enjoying the limited privilege they got. Due to overcrowding of students, they demotivate themselves saying that they can't excel in studies and even if they can, they still won't get job. The quality of education is already low and when they lose focus on their studies, the quality of education will continue to drop along with their studies. Still then, more people will be educated even if it's just basic education.
Finally, when they are provided with free education, they won't value it, or they won't know the true value of it. The quality of education is already low, there is overcrowding of students and on top of it, education is free. Obviously, the students will take it as granted. They say that all industries search for middle qualified person but since they are highly educated, they will be unemployed. Their hard work will eventually go to waste. Even if they say that they can work in smaller post, the industries won't allow because of the law. As they are implied with this kind of mindset, they won't value the free education. Even then, they at least get to be graduated even if it's just for their namesake.
To sum up the points, free education leads to increase of the government burden which declines the economic growth, it leads to overcrowding of students resulting in losing their focus on studies and lastly, they don't value it or not even try to value it. They only waste the resources which is already scarce. Therefore, education should no longer be free in Bhutan.
